About Microtech Scale Models

MicroTech Scale Models is owned and operated as a partnership by Dave Strutt and Kevin Barnett. Our intention is to bring unique scale models and tools to the model railroading hobby, in so doing we might "Give Back" a little to the hobby that has given us so much enjoyment.

Founded in the fall of 1999 this partnership brings together a very diverse background.  Kevin Barnett, a professional model builder by trade, is employed by one of Southern California's largest model builders. His many skills are used to construct models of every kind; from a 1" scale construction crane used in a court trial to a larger than life kitchen faucet that stood 15' tall used at a trade show. Kevin cut his teeth in the modeling business with Campbell Scale Models during the 80's and helped develop many of their fine kits. An avid model railroader his passion is the Westside Lumber Company, that he models in Sn3. 

Dave Strutt is President of Arrowhead Alarms, Inc. a burglar and fire alarm company located at Lake Arrowhead, California. For the past fifteen years he has grown this business into a multi-million dollar company that installs and monitors alarm systems nationwide. Dave's interest in model railroading is in the Rio Grande Southern. He currently is building a large basement layout in Sn3.

Brought together by the hobby in 1992 Dave and Kevin, along with several others started a local club known as "The Section Gang". This loose knit group meets in a round robin fashion helping each other build their layouts. Through this group many long term friendships have developed and have been the most enjoyable part of this great hobby.
